Health and SafetyRecruitmentHorizon Drilling Inc. hiring practices are crucial to the development of effective, safety minded employees. The HR department recruits primarily graduates from the Pre-Employment Floor Hand Training course offered by EnForm. Meetings are conducted between graduating class members and Horizon Drilling to discuss the company, its expectations as well as the expectations an individual can expect from the company. We discuss pre-employment substance abuse screening. Screening takes place under many circumstances as outlined by the Department of Transport guidelines (Post Offer, Post Incident, Reasonable cause, Random and Return to work). Approximately 20% of graduates follow-up our recruitment session by seeking employment with Horizon Drilling Inc. Of these, 50% are invited to further their training by participating in Petroleum Safety Training (PST) Orientation as well as a Driver Training and Fatigue & Lifestyles Management sessions developed by the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC). It is at this juncture that the applicant is exposed to illegal substance screening. Successful candidates that are offered a position are then given further
training in our policies which include proactive environmental measures and
training in off road defensive driving. Horizon Drilling Inc.
places considerable effort in recruiting and training its employees and to
this end we believe this to be a contributing factor in our low turnover
rates. Maintaining low turnover results in a more cohesive workforce and
ultimately a safer place to be. |
